Just Raoul

First published in a hardcover edition by Stoddart, Toronto in 1990 as Just Raoul: Adventures in the French Resistance and by Prima Publishing in Rocklin, CA as Just Raoul: The Private War against the Nazis of Raoul Laporterie who saved over 1600 lives in France.

The biography of a French resistance hero,  Raoul Laporterie, a village mayor in Vichy France south of Bordeaux, who risked his life to save others just because it was the right thing to do.

Bacque first read about Laporterie in a chapter of Peter Hellman’s book, Avenue of the Righteous: Portraits in Uncommon Courage of Christians and the Jews They Saved from Hitler, and decided his dramatic story was worthy of a full length biography.

Illustrated with many photographs from Laporterie’s archive, and endpaper maps.
